Week 6 Results

Game of the week- Pink over Purple. This was a game that many experts (ok mostly just me) picked for purple to finally beat their streak and get their first win. Purple gave it all they had, taking an 8-7 lead with minutes to go to the cap. Pink stormed back using their trusty zone to hold on for a 10-8 win. The play of the game was an incredible layout D from Purple’s Larry that turned into an even more incredible layout grab from Pink’s Jamie. The favorites may have won every game this week, but no one got as close as Purple

Offensive player of the week- Jackson from White. Fresh off of his 2nd club ultimate experience, he came back a changed man. He now has the savvy to combine with the classic Jackson speed. He popped extremely well against a day full of zone. Maroon ran a tricky 3-2-1 zone with an aggressive cup and wings (including Dan C.) that would feast on anything floaty. Jackson was able to consistently be in the right place, allowing white to snag two very important wins on a day where they missed some very key players

Defensive play of the week- Dan C. from Maroon. Maroon turned in a total team effort today, despite falling short in both of their games. Quinn was making layout catches and Ds all day. Naveed was winning jump balls, forcing teams to play honest. Dan C. was on fire though. He had an incredible layout D on a swing pass against white. Their shorthanded zone routinely forced teams to throw 20-30 passes to move up the field.

Play of the week: Hammer threat Spencer from Blue showed the world why he has so spent much of his life studying math and science in school. The hammer defied everyone but Breese’s expectation. It went 30 yards in the air, 20 yards across, and 10 yards up to land perfectly in Breese’s arms. Move over Orange team, Blue will be the team to go undefeated in the 2nd half with this unguardable throw. It’s now up to Captain Jenny and Mike to whether or not they choose to unlock its full power.

Next week’s game of the week- Pink vs Orange. Orange will be tested a lot in the upcoming week. They will be tested mightily by both white and pink who are in a cage match for the first round bye. Will Pink’s power couple of Jamie and Shawna be able to contain the popping couple of NUK and Peggy? Which Dan makes the better 2nd half adjustments, the captain or the coach? Will Orange’s newest handler Kiyah be enough to cover for James’ absence in the zone handler spot?

1st round results:

Pink win over Blue

Orange win over Maroon

White win over Purple

Purple opened the game downwind on offense, but White struck first with a pair of early breaks. Both teams experimented with how to slow down the opposing team and force a lot of throws in the windy environment; Purple employed a female lane poach while White flattened their marks and helped in the deep lane. Juice, Josh Blake, and Isabel Haber all caught big first-half hucks for the white team while jumping out to a 6-2 first half lead. White extended the lead in the second half to 9-4. Purple closed hard in the second half to 9-7 off of strong handler play from Izzy and effective downfield cutting from Morgan, but ultimately ran out of time on their comeback

2nd round results:

Orange win over Blue

Pink win over Purple

White win over Maroon

Maroon's only lady left after the first game so they matched up 6-0 against a 5-2 white team from start to finish. White went up early off of short turnovers and fast break turnovers, but big plays from Trevor and Jason clawed the team back from 5-2 to 5-5.  Dan Colletti came up with a spectacular layout D on the wing and Maroon caught two tipped discs in the endzone.  White's zone offense gained valuable experience working through an under-manned 3-2-1 zone but experienced some drops and sneaky play from the Maroon D line. Ultimately, white team's zone O led by Kristin, Audrey, and Jackson's play as poppers led the White team to a 10-7 victory.

Current standings after week 5:

Orange 12-0

White 8-4

Pink 8-4

Maroon 4-8

Blue 4-8

Purple 0-12
