Hi all,
I apologize for the delay sending this out. My personal laptop forgot how to charge and my phone died a noble death at a wedding last weekend. I am slowly catching up to all things tech related including the league write-up.
Game of the week- Purple over blue. PURPLE DID IT!!!! The streak is over! After weeks of dedicated practice, purple’s zone offense finally meshed. Izzy especially was fantastic at getting the disc off the sideline. When Blue decided to ditch the 6 person zone look, Nat connected with deep hucks to Dante and Clyde like he always does. The purple women (Morgan, Sonia, Izzy, and Mae) were especially hard to cover. Stephanie from Blue deserves a whole lot of credit for playing almost every point, trying to keep up with them
Offensive player of the week- Alec from Orange. Orange had their hands full today playing against the two teams tied for 2nd in the league, with only 5 men and 3 women. To try to save legs, Orange went into gunslinger mode. They came away with two close wins as Alec especially was unstoppable in the deep space, collecting big skies over White and Pink’s top athletes. He threw a few hucks of his own. He also wisely dished to especially the women of orange to finish the score. Yours truly often only had warning track power on the hucks to Alec.
Defensive play of the week- Juice from White. White snagged an early lead with a break against Orange in their very important game. On the 2nd point of the game, Orange (ok me) was stuck on the corner of his end zone with an increasingly high still. A miscommunication on the dump caused the around to sail over the dump’s head and right into Juice’s hands. It was mere inches away from a callahan (and definitely a callahan according to Jake). It did not matter to Juice who quickly dumped it off for an early white break.
Rookie of the week: Daniel S on Pink. Captain and GM extraordinaire Nolan was able to snag Daniel S of the waiver wire. The man then had an immediate impact for Pink. He showcased his speed, snagging D after D. He also out read and out jumped me in the end zone from a deep throw from Nolan. Most of all, he was able to demonstrate terrific spirit of the game after having 5-6 strip calls against him, which he graciously threw back without contesting.
Play of the week: In Trevor’s last game before leaving for NOLA, the big man gets way up and skies a pile of pink players including Christophe. The hard cap point may not have earned maroon victory, but he can walk away from the area knowing he skied one of our best in the air. Please eat a benoit for us all up here when you settle into your new spot.
Next week’s game of the week- Pink vs White. The winner of this game gets a game and a half lead on 2nd place with only 4 more remaining games after. White’s extremely patient zone O will be tested by Pink very tight zone defense. This game promises to be a barnburner with both teams hoping to avoid a dreaded QF matchup against the resurgent purple or a blue team that can be deadly when everyone shows up.
