Game of the week- There were plenty of games to choose from. Pink and white were all tied up nearing the hard cap, before pink knocked out two straight. Purple pulled out new offensive and defensive schemes to fall just short against white in a likely preview of the quarterfinals. Blue vs Pink tops them though for this week. This game had it all. Big hucks and skies, savvy zone plays, and so much energy. Pink was leading by one with minutes left until hard cap. A red zone turn from Pink opened the door for Blue. A big huck from Spencer led to even bigger sky from Paolo. He quickly dished the disc in for the score setting up universe point. Blue threw zone for the final point. Spencer channeled his inner Ben Slade by snagging a hand block and yelling “PIECE” as loud as he can. Moments, later Spencer came down with the big sky in the back of the end zone to get the W for Blue. Pink now has to either win their game against Purple next week or see White lose to Maroon in order to dodge the quarterfinal game
Offensive players of the week- Spencer and Paolo. Both came out slinging today throwing massive hucks against pink. Paolo in particular had an incredibly big sky over Pink to tie the game up. Both players came huge for the last points of the game.
Defensive play of the week- John from Purple. With white trapped in the corner of their own end zone, Purple elected to throw zone. John brilliantly read the thrower’s eyes and pounced on a throw through the cup to the dump. He was able to grab the callahan in a thrilling game against White.
Rookie of the week: Nathan from blue. He is a classic example of a draft and stash. The two-sport athlete has now fully committed to ultimate. He added a much needed cutter for blue. He popped correctly for blue’s patient offense and exhibited excellent energy whenever pink or maroon went man. With Stack and Nathan both back for Blue, things may finally be coming together for this very talented roster as playoffs start.
Play of the week:
Next week’s game of the week- Purple vs White/Pink. In the interest of not giving away purple’s strategy before the playoffs, I won’t dive too much into what purple is doing now vs the beginning of the season. They are cooking something special though and may be the most improved team of the year. They played both pink and white very close recently. Either of those teams should be on a high upset alert. White will need to beat Maroon and have Purple beat Pink to gain the first round bye.
